Feed Pad Covers
Bairnsdale Engineering:
Feed Pad Covers
A covered feed pad can make supplementary feeding more efficient and manageable throughout the year. By keeping feed protected from the weather and off the ground, feed pad covers help reduce wastage, improve feed quality, and create a cleaner feeding environment for stock. During wet conditions, they can also help minimise paddock pugging and reduce pressure on pasture areas.
Bairnsdale Engineering feed pad covers are manufactured from hot-rolled universal beam (UB) and circular hollow section (CHS) steel, with factory-welded connection plates for strength, durability, and efficient installation. Where there is a high flow of cattle, CHS columns can be incorporated into the design. Their smooth, rounded surface helps reduce the risk of bruising, while also allowing wall bracing to be minimised or eliminated in certain applications. This provides improved access for livestock, machinery, and feeding equipment.
To maximise the lifespan of the structure, we strongly recommend hot-dip galvanising all primary steelwork. This provides superior corrosion resistance in the demanding agricultural environment.
Our large clear-span feed pad covers are designed to maximise usable space and provide safe, unobstructed access for vehicles, machinery, and stock. The result is a practical feeding solution that improves efficiency, reduces feed losses, and helps keep your operation running smoothly in all conditions.
Feed Pad Cover
Options and Features
Universal Beam Rafters
Provide a clean yet heavy-duty design, offering increased height clearance and less places for birds to roost.
Flexible Post Locations
Work in with individual yard layouts, reducing snag points and avoiding gateways.
Overhangs
Are easily achieved with the UB rafter, keeping feed alleys clear of posts while providing additional weather protection.
Skillion Roof
Ideal for making the most of the morning sun and rainwater harvest to one side.
Gable Roof
A cost effective design when large clear spans are required.
Hot Dip Galvanised Columns & Rafters
Provide ultimate corrosion resistance in high-ammonia environments for long-lasting performance.
Part Clad Walls
Prevent wet weather from spoiling the feed without affecting the ventilation of clean air through the shed.
Concrete Panels
Steelwork can be designed and manufactured to integrate with concrete panels.
Client Outcome
Chris, from Nyora, saw an immediate return on his investment after he installed a cover over his feed pad area. Cows come onto the feed pad from being milked and fill up on the feed before going to the paddocks. They go to the paddocks full, helping to reduce pasture damage. The feed pad cover helps to prevent the feed from spoiling during the season, thus reducing further waste. Hot-dip galvanised universal beam (UB) frames reduced bird nesting, while circular hollow section columns eliminated wall bracing, ensuring clear cattle access and preventing bruising in stock.
I drive past farms where I see feed strewn out in the paddock, much of which is wasted and trodden into the paddock. The feed pad cover has eliminated most of the feed waste.
