Bairnsdale Engineering:

Packing Sheds

From seedling propagation and produce packing through to cool room facilities, storage, and processing areas, packing and produce shed requirements can vary significantly between operations. Bairnsdale Engineering designs and manufactures custom produce sheds to suit a wide range of agricultural applications, from standalone buildings to large integrated facilities.

Every operation has unique requirements, which is why our sheds can be tailored to suit your workflow, equipment, storage needs, and future growth plans. Whether you’re handling fruit, vegetables, nursery products, or other agricultural produce, we can deliver a practical building designed around the way your business operates.

Our shed frames can be engineered to support cool room ceiling panels and other specialised infrastructure. Cantilevered awnings can also be incorporated over loading and dispatch areas to provide additional weather protection while maintaining clear access for vehicles and equipment. By eliminating unnecessary columns, cantilever designs help improve access and operational efficiency around loading docks.

Shed frames are manufactured from hot-rolled universal beam (UB) steel, with connection plates factory-welded to rafters and columns for strength, durability, and efficient installation. For maximum longevity in agricultural environments, we recommend hot-dip galvanising the columns and rafters to provide superior corrosion resistance.

The result is a durable, purpose-built produce shed that supports efficient handling, processing, storage, and dispatch of valuable agricultural products.

Client Outcome

For many years, Bairnsdale Engineering has been building sheds for Bonaccord across their farms.

One of these builds was a large rural cool room and vegetable packing facility near Walpa. Covering approximately 2,130 m², the project was designed to support efficient vegetable handling, packing and refrigerated storage.

To minimise disruption to the client’s ongoing operations, the shed was supplied and installed in three carefully planned stages. This staged construction approach allowed vegetable processing activities to continue throughout the build while major structural components were progressively completed.
