Calf Shed – Loch

Building size: 64.5m long (8 x 8m bays), 12m roof span (9m shed + 2.25 & 0.75m overhangs), 4.5m high at low side.

Air ventilation is essential when it comes to calf health. The ventilation gap below the west facing eave allows the prevailing weather to flow through under the roof without being draughty near the calves.

Having the calf sheds open to the north allows the sunlight to reach the back wall during winter whilst during summer the eave overhang offers complete shade.

The column base connections were designed to suit concrete panels which were poured on site by others. Extra support posts were supplied mid bay to accommodate the concrete dado panels.
