Bonaccord Packing Shed – Walpa

Bonaccord Packing Shed – Walpa

COMPLETED PROJECT

Bairnsdale Engineering:

Extends Bonaccord's Vegetable Processing and Cool Room Facility

For many years, Bairnsdale Engineering has been building sheds for Bonaccord across their farms.

One of these builds was a large rural cool room and vegetable packing facility near Walpa. Covering approximately 2,130 m², the project was designed to support efficient vegetable handling, packing and refrigerated storage.

To minimise disruption to the client’s ongoing operations, the shed was supplied and installed in three carefully planned stages. This staged construction approach allowed vegetable processing activities to continue throughout the build while major structural components were progressively completed.

The project also required significant modifications to existing infrastructure, with works carefully coordinated to ensure the least possible disturbance to daily operations on site. Through detailed planning and close communication with the client, Bairnsdale Engineering successfully delivered the facility while maintaining workflow continuity.

At the heart of the development is a 50m × 28m clear-span main gable building, engineered using universal beams (UB) for both columns and rafters. This structural system provides the strength required to support the cool room ceiling panels and associated loads, while maintaining a wide, unobstructed internal workspace for packing and processing operations.

Adjacent to the main structure is a 24.6m × 30m clear-span industrial canopy, providing additional covered space keeping produce sheltered from rain and harsh sun during unloading.

Durability was a key consideration in the design, with hot-dipped galvanised universal beam columns and rafters used throughout the structure to ensure long-term corrosion resistance in an agricultural environment.

The completed facility provides Bonaccord with a modern, efficient vegetable packing and cool storage solution, supporting reliable processing operations and future growth.
